It's hard to not be fascinated by trains. They're larger-than-life providers of exciting transportation for all ages. Don't miss out on viewing these large engines on a unique smaller-scale level as they run through the New York Botanical Gardens' annual Holiday Train Show. Whether you're a native New Yorker or a tourist popping in for a visit, you'll be thrilled at these dazzling recreations of New York City’s most iconic attractions.

The Holiday Train Show is held under the dome of the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, a Victorian-style glasshouse at the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx. Each year, the Holiday Train Show displays more than 25 G-scale model trains, ferries and trolleys that zip around miniature versions of famous NYC landmarks. Replicas set to make their debut during the 27th exhibition include One World Trade Center, the Woolworth Building and vintage ferry boats. These landmarks will join more than 175 timeless New York sights like Yankee Stadium and the Statue of Liberty.

To blend in with Botanical Gardens' lush landscapes, the miniature landmarks and buildings surrounding the tracks are all created from natural plant materials like seeds, stems and twigs. A team of designers meticulously handcraft the pieces to match the rest of the greenhouse, as seen in the video below.

After seeing the rails, top off your trip with a series of family-friendly and educational programs offered by the Holiday Train Show. Take a Winter Wonderland Tree Tour along the garden and share your cheer with the kids during short holiday film screenings.

If you're over 21, there are also opportunities to appreciate a special after-dark viewing of the Holiday Train Show. On Bar Car Nights, guests can enjoy signature drinks and festive treats while viewing dance performances and impressive ice sculptures.
